Three army vehicles caused mayhem on the roads after being turned away from the Dartford Tunnel this morning (Dec 4).
The vehicles were around 35cm too big to get through the tunnel and so were forced to head back.
Congestion occurred between the M25 to the J2 A2 (Darenth Interchange) and some lanes were closed until around midday.
A spokesman from the Highways Agency said: “Three low-loaders, each carrying heavily armed vehicles, tried to pass through but they were each 3.4 metres wide, the gap is only 3.06 metres.
“They weren’t going to fit through.
“A rolling road block was put in place as they needed to be moved to the abnormal load lane.”
