Film stars from south east London could be set to get their hands on some prestigious awards before the race for Oscars and Baftas kicks off in earnest.
The British Independent Film Awards - where the likes of Mr Turner, The Imitation Game and Pride slug it out – are on Sunday (December 7) in Old Billingsgate.
Forest Hill’s Timothy Spall and his son Rafe, who went to school in New Cross, are both up for gongs though thankfully not in the same category.
Dad Timothy, 57, is nominated alongside Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Brendan Gleeson (Calvary), Jack O’Connell (’71) and Asa Butterfield (X+Y) in the Best Actor category.
He played artist JMW Turner in Mike Leigh’s Mr Turner, which he spoke to Vibe about earlier in the year.
The film is also one of five Best British Independent Film nominees.
Meanwhile Rafe, 31 – who recently spoke to Vibe about his Christmas movie Get Santa - is nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in X+Y.
His X+Y co-star Sally Hawkins, who was raised in Blackheath, is up for Best Supporting Actress.
The ceremony, in its 17th year, will be hosted by The Inbetweeners star Simon Bird.
