It has been years since I went to a pantomime with my sister, so when the opportunity arose I jumped at the chance.
Sleeping Beauty is showing at Bromley's Churchill Theatre until January 5, with a matinee and evening show most days.
Keeping to the classic tale, it tells the story of a girl who pricks her finger on a spinning wheel, only to be saved by true loves kiss.
Featuring an all-star cast, 80s pop star Sonia steps into the good fairy's shoes, while pop idol finalist Zoe Birkett channels her darker side as the bad fairy Caraboose.
Marc Bayliss, better known as Rob Donovan in ITVs Coronation Street, plays the dreamy prince from 'Weatherfieldonia', cantering in to the soap's theme tune.
A children's favourite already, Jamie Rickers from Nickelodeon and CITV plays Silly Billy.
Last but not least, Bobby Crush plays the dame Nurse Nelly, with more wardrobe changes than you can shake a stick at.
Laced with sauciness and innuendo, the show is a rib tickler with parents and children alike.
Including panto classics 'Oh No You Didn't!' and 'It's Behind You!', it combines traditional jokes with some more modern ones - namely a round of The Weakest Link.
From rapping kings to a radiant Sleeping Beauty singing chart toppers from the likes of Taylor Swift and others - there is something for everyone.
With breathtaking rotating scenery, pyrotechnics, and numerous flying cast members - the use of special effects even allows the prince to battle a dragon.
Audience participation was is in full swing with water guns, sing-a-longs and sweet throwing to the packed crowd.
With laugh out loud gags and local references - such as getting your watch nicked in Orpington - it is fun for the whole family.
William Child, 12, from Old Tye Avenue described it as: "Really good! The fairy godmother had a really good voice.
"The prince is my favourite character, and it was amazing watching the toys come to life."
Similarly Bromley Road Infant’s pupil Tallula Rasanayagam, seven, thought it was: "Better than the DVD. Billy is my favourite character because he's really fun."
All in all it casts a spell of wonder and magic for the kids, with a great night out packed with laughs for the grownups.
And it was still able to evoke that sense of awe my sister and I shared as children.
