The London Fire Brigade is looking for young people from Lewisham and Greenwich to join its cadet scheme.
Run out of Lee Green fire station, the cadets meet once a week from 6pm to 9pm and can put on fire gear and learn about using hoses, climbing ladders and wearing breathing apparatus.
Cadets also learn valuable communication, leadership and teamwork skills while working towards a BTEC Level 2 qualification.
Co-ordinator Stevie Clifford-Tucker - a former cadet himself - said: "We’ve had some real success stories, one of our ex cadets is now a London Fire Brigade firefighter.
"This six-month course is completely free for potential fire cadets, all we ask is that they are keen and committed."
