A serving Greenwich policeman will appear in court this morning (December 4) charged with assaulting a 23-year-old man.
Sergeant Matthew Bassett, 35, is charged with ABH over the alleged attack, which happened while he was on duty in north Greenwich on February 24 last year.
He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court this morning.
A spokesman for the Met Police said: "The charge follows from a complaint by the victim, investigated by the Directorate of Professional Standards.
"Sergeant Bassett was not arrested, but was interviewed under caution. He was placed on, and remains on, restricted duties."
