Santa helped illuminate Chislehurst at the annual Christmas lights switch-on.

Crowds flocked to Chislehurst High Street last Saturday to watch as the town geared up for the festive season.

Set in the forecourt of the Queens Head Pub in the High Street, children were able to meet Santa and his helpers - each receiving a free candy cane.

Youngsters were also given free finger torches or glow sticks ready for the main event.

Father Christmas did the countdown to the decorations switching on at 4.15pm, with the lights sponsored by the Chislehurst Business Group, made up of 80 local shops and businesses.

The audience were treated to singing performances by All the Arts Theatre School, The Studio, Glenlyn Academy and the Rock Choir.

All ages performed, with the younger ones dressed especially for the occasion as angels, shepherds and other traditional characters.

Clare Herriot, manager of High Street shop 2gether, said: “Thank you to all those who came to our annual lights event on Saturday, there was a big turn out and a great atmosphere."

Ms Herriot, also CEO of Chislehurst Business Group, said: “Thank you also to those who helped make it happen and of course the businesses who sponsor our lights!"
