A mum and dad from Abbey Wood have been found guilty of child neglect after their one-year-old daughter suffered 70 separate fractures on her body before she died.

The girl was pronounced dead by staff from London Ambulance Service at their home on Bracondale Road at 1.47pm on February 5 last year after being called by the girl's father, aged 43.

A post mortem examination revealed the girl had 70 separate fractures on her body and injuries to her ribs, legs, arms and shoulder.

Both parents refused to answer any questions about their child's injuries during police interviews and were charged on January 6 with child neglect.

Enquiries revealed the mother, aged 36, had taken the child to see a doctor but failed to mention the injuries, despite speaking to friends about the child suffering from pain when she tried to move her arm or shoulder.

The parents, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were convicted on Friday (November 28) at Woolwich Crown Court and will be sentenced in January.
