Around £6m will be spent on the area around Abbey Wood's new Crossrail station following a deal struck by Bexley and Greenwich Councils.
Following a joint bid by both boroughs, Transport for London will contribute £2.2m towards the improvements, with the rest coming from both councils and Network Rail.
Work will include new pavements along Harrow Manor Way and dedicated cycle lanes leading uphill in both directions towards the station entrance area.
Parts of Felixstowe Road and Gayton Road will get new paving, parking for disabled users, short stay parking and drop off points.
Cycle parking will also be provided, along with benches and new trees.
Leader of Greenwich Council Councillor Denise Hyland, who also represents Abbey Wood ward, said: "The Abbey Wood station design is one of the most exciting on the entire Crossrail network and with these impressive public realm improvements around the station, the area will look very attractive.
"All of these improvements go towards attracting new investment and new jobs to the area. These are exciting times for Abbey Wood and the borough as a whole.
"It’s also been great to work in partnership with our neighbours in Bexley on this bid – Abbey Wood crosses into both boroughs and it’s been very constructive to work on a successful bid which will benefit residents from both boroughs."
Abbey Wood's Crossrail station is currently being built and is set to open in 2018, giving residents a 20-minute journey time into central London.
