Chislehurst’s finest, Pixie Lott took some time off Strictly rehearsals to return to her day job yesterday as she released her latest album with a bang, just don’t call it a greatest hits.
The 23-year-old songstress performed to fans and a smattering of celebrities at a secret gig in Chelsea yesterday with a nine piece band as she let loose her Platinum Pixie record on the world.
The record features some of her biggest hits from her five years in the pop business, as well as some bonuses such as the charity cover Caravan of Love and a festive treat, I Got Love for Xmas.
Speaking to Vibe after the show, Pixie, who lived in Chislehurst until her teens, said: “I don’t really see it as a Greatest Hits because hopefully there will be greater.
“People have been tweeting their favourite songs over the past few years and it was a chance to have it all on an album for Christmas, really, and then there were a few Christmas extras.”
The intimate gig was a great chance for Pixie to return to the stage with a microphone in front of her rather than a panel of judges on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
She said: “That is my comfort zone.
“Basically, anything goes so I don’t get nervous so I don’t get nervous and I’m my most comfortable when I’m doing music.
“I hadn’t felt nerves in such a long time, since I was really little and every Saturday night before Strictly I get really nervous.”
Once the dance show finishes, Pixie is looking forward to getting back into the studio to make more hits and is clearly excited about the direction her next album could take.
She said: “Next year after Strictly I’m going straight back into the studio. I don’t want it to be too long before my next album comes out.
“I’m so excited, we’ve already got our sessions booked in. We’re going to go to LA and New York again. I’m up for doing more collaborations and working with lots of different producers and having more of a fresh sound.
“My last album, I wanted to keep it with a small group of people and it was very organic, which I loved.
“Some of my favourite songs I’ve done were on that album.
“I’m looking to have more fun on the next album and branch out more, especially now I’ve learnt some samba moves.”
Her music is unlikely to be influenced by her newfound dancing skills, she said, though she is keen to display some of her new moves in a video and wants to keep up the skill.
She said: “I would love to because not only is it really really good fun, it’s great fitness.
“I hate going on the treadmill and stuff and I never really did anything. I would love to do more but it’s hard (to find the time) – when would I do it?
Pixie Lott’s album Platinum Pixie is out now.
