A property developer died after he was knifed in the leg during a botched cannabis robbery plot in Downham, a court heard today (November 19).

Dad-of-one Afyon Saint-Hilaire, 22, was attacked by a gang after he was ambushed outside McDonald's in Old Bromley Road.

The young entrepreneur was knifed during a struggle and crashed his Mercedes Coupe in Coniston Road. He bled to death as a result of the stab wound to his leg, the Old Bailey heard.

Marcus El-Alfy, 18, Vishal Deowram, 18, Jordache Smith-Challis, 20, Shyheim Green, 20, and Lance Sloley, 23, are all of accused of murdering Mr Saint-Hilaire in July this year.

Mr Saint-Hilaire, from Bromley, was involved in property development and had set up his own music production company.

Prosecutor Dorian Lovell-Pank said the victim, with cousin Mickyle Bromfield, 24, drove to meet El-Alfy and Deowram to sell them herbal cannabis worth £450 on July 13.

Mr Saint-Hilaire was attacked as he sat in El-Alfy's black Ford Focus as the money was being counted out.

News Shopper:
But the gang scattered when Bromfield fired a Colt pistol, the court heard.

Bleeding heavily, Mr Saint-Hilaire jumped back into his car and drove away - but crashed half-a-mile down the road and later died.

Mr Lovell-Pank said: "This is a case of robbery and murder in which both a knife and a gun were used or played a part."

He went on: "A number of young men met together for what was supposed to be a cannabis deal - but things were not quite what they seemed because some of the men had other ideas, namely to rob the dealers of their cannabis.

"In the course of the meeting things became violent and one of the dealers was stabbed in the lower part of his leg and one of his companions fired a shot at the others.

"Everyone scattered - the dealers drove off, the driver of the car was bleeding heavily from his wound and about half a mile down the road drove into a parked car and came to a stop.

"Other people attended the scene very quickly, as did the emergency services, and people tried to see to his injuries, but sadly it was too late and the man bled to death at the scene."

Afyon's blood filled the footwell of his car as he drove away and he begged his cousin to call his father and brothers following the collision, the court heard.

Police discovered the gun in a garden nearby but the knife and cannabis have never been recovered.

El-Alfy, of Riverside Court, Vincent Close, Bromley, Deowram, of Thornton Heath, Smith-Challis, from Brighton, Green, from Croydon and Sloley, from Thornton Heath, all deny murder and conspiracy to rob.

Bromfield, from Brentford, denies possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and an alternative of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

The trial, due to last six weeks, continues.
