Two Bexley pubs have been recognised in this year's Loo of the Year Awards.
The Furze Wren in Market Place, Bexleyheath and The Tailor’s Chalk in High Street, Sidcup have each been awarded a platinum star rating by inspectors ? the highest award possible.
The awards, aimed at highlighting and improving standards of 'away from home' toilet provision, involve authorised inspectors making unannounced visits to hundreds of toilets at sites across the UK.
The platinum rating is given only to outlets which offer "exceptional toilets".
The latrines are judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.
All are graded from bronze to gold with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.
News Shopper's PubSpy said: "The Tailor’s Chalk is one of my favourite pubs and the toilets are great.
"The bogs are also impressive in the Furze Wren, though the pub’s a bit of a hole. In fact, I’d rather drink my pint in the lavvy and relieve myself at the bar if that were an option. But it’s not."
In September mother Olivia Pozniak was asked by a member of staff at the Furze Wren pub to 'cover-up' while she was breast-feeding, and reportedly handed a dirty dish cloth, as she had breakfast with friends.
PubSpy added: "If a staff member took a dim view of breast-feeding in the Furze Wren, you’d certainly get kicked out for whizzing on the slotties."
Furze Wren manager Louie Scott, said: "I am delighted with the award.
"Staff at the pub work hard to ensure the toilets are in a first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."
The Loo of the Year Awards 2014 managing director, Mike Bone, said: "The toilets at each of the pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.
"The pubs richly deserve their platinum awards."
