Greenwich Council's new boss has vowed to continue the borough's growth.
John Comber was selected by a council panel to take the £185,000 per year job following the retirement of former chief executive Mary Ney, who led the borough for 14 years.
Mr Comber has worked at the council for nearly two decades, most recently as director of regeneration, enterpirse and skills.
He said: "I’m thrilled to be undertaking this role at what is such an exciting time for the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
"We’re undergoing an unprecedented and ambitious programme of growth and change and I want to make sure all of our residents benefit from the opportunities this presents.
"Greenwich is an absolutely fantastic place and I am proud to be serving the people of the borough in this way.
"A key aim – in these challenging financial times – is to work with the staff of the council to continue to build and grow the borough while delivering the very best value for money for our local residents."
