A project aimed at getting people together to transform open spaces is in with a chance of winning up to £50,000 - but it needs your votes today (November 26).
The Space Invaders project - a collaboration between charity Wide Horizons and social landlord Phoenix Community Housing - plans to improve five open spaces, as well as offering new volunteering and training opportunities.
It will build on regeneration in Downham, Catford and Bellingham, such as the recently-opened Peter Pan's Park.
Space Invaders is one of two projects competing for funding through The People’s Millions.
A short film about the project will be shown on ITV London today and a public vote will decide which project receives up to £50,000 National Lottery funding.
Chief executive of Phoenix Jim Ripley said: "The properties in our area were built after the First World War as ‘homes for heroes’.
"Phoenix is all about working with partners like Wide Horizons and our community to restore that pride and build a new sense of hope for the future.
"I hope people will take a moment to vote for Space Invaders in the People’s Millions vote and help our community make another huge step towards transforming our area and improving people’s lives."
The scheme will focus on open spaces close to schools and aims to reduce flytipping and antisocial behaviour around these areas.
It will provide training and support for five community champions to work with other adults, children and young people on projects at each of the green spaces. The project will also provide accredited training for young people around managing the environment.
