A grand old building in Woolwich will look a million bucks when it reopens as a pub later this summer, while a Bromley pub is getting similar treatment.
Pub company Antic have taken over the Woolwich Equitable Building Society building in General Gordon Square and plan to open it as a boozer called the Woolwich Equitable.
The same company is also set to open the Railway Tavern in Bromley.
Antic frequently use a venue’s heritage to inform the name and decor of a pub, as they have done with an old post office at Eltham GPO and Deptford’s Job Centre.
The building, which was home to the famous building society until it moved to Bexleyheath in 1965, will again reflect its previous life by boasting marble cladding and vintage decor.
In a statement, Antic said it ‘will proudly be a welcome addition to the daily buzz of General Gordon Square’.
As well as a regularly-changing drinks menu featuring local brews, the Woolwich Equitable will also serve main meals and snacks with ‘a contemporary twist on British pub food’.
With a late licence until 1am from Thursday to Saturday, it will likely host vintage fairs, comedy, open mic nights, DJs and bands.
As well as its first pub in Woolwich, Antic will also run the Railway Tavern on the corner of East Street in Bromley.
