Around 20 firefighters were called out to a fire at Gravesend Fencing Ltd last night.
Plumes of smoke around 50 foot high and explosions were reportedly heard over the town.
Three crews and police officers were called to the blaze in Lower Range Road at 6.15pm.
The crews used two hose reel jets, one compressed air foam jet and a hydrant to tackle a fire in a metal container involving a number of cylinders.
Crews successfully surrounded the fire and a safety cordon was in place while the cylinders vented and cooled.
The fire was out by 7.45pm but crews remained in attendance for another hour, damping down and turning over.
The duty of care was handed over to the local authority and the premises owner by 8.46pm.
