Police have released CCTV images of three men they would like to speak to in connection with an assault on a train at Lower Sydenham.

British Transport Police (BTP) made public the pictures today (June 30) after a 21-year-old man was left cut while travelling on a Southeastern service to Charing Cross.

Police say the victim was approached by a group of three and attacked as he boarded the train.

Officers describe a “frightening incident” for the victim and other passengers on board.

Detective Constable Rachel Smith said: “At about 9.45am on Thursday June 5 a 21-year-old man waiting at the station was approached by three men.

“One of the men sat next to him for a few minutes, chatting to him, before the group left.

“However, when the victim boarded a Charing Cross-bound train one of the group ran back, attempting to force his way onto the train by stabbing at the doors with a knife.”

The attacker managed to get the doors partially open and cut the victim as he kicked out in self defence. The suspects then fled the scene.

DC Smith added: “Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured, but this was a frightening incident, not only for the man concerned but also for the other passengers on the train.”
