A girl from Gravesend is getting ready to chop off her hair to raise funds for a charity helping transform the lives of children with cancer.

Rebecca Jones, aged 15, who is a pupil at Mayfield Grammar School in Pelham Road, decided to cut her hair for charity as she thought her long blonde hair could come in useful to help make wigs for youngsters going through chemotherapy.

Rebecca will have her hair chopped off at Images Hair in Perry Street, Northfleet at 5.30pm on June 27.

So far Rebecca has raised almost £700 for The Little Princess Trust through cake sales at her school and sponsorship by teachers, family and friends. She also raised money through washing people’s cars.

She said: "I thought it sounded like a brilliant charity as they care for children who are very ill and so I thought I could get rid of my long hair to raise money for them. I thought it could also help make a wig for a child suffering from cancer.

"Everyone’s been very supportive and some of my friends will be coming to the hairdressers when I get my hair cut. I am having a Pixie style cut, because of the amount of hair I am donating.

"I'm quite excited and a little bit nervous."

Rebecca’s mother, Dawn Miller, said: "It was all her idea. I am really proud of everything she’s achieved and is doing."
