Residents of south-east London are being invited to take part in a three-week long ‘urban wilderness adventure’ and clean up some of its waterways.

The 3RiversCleanUp volunteer campaign was set up to improve rivers running through Bromley, Lewisham, Greenwich, and into Croydon.

Now in its sixth year, the project seeks to remove harmful waste and pollutants and improve the habitats of wildlife.

In 2013 400 volunteers put in 1,350 hours of work across the catchment. They contributed to various schemes such as preventing the spread of Himalayan Balsam.

Organised by a number of local councils, environmental charities, and other groups, the cleanup this year runs from June 21 to July 12.
