A Bromley house had its roof completely destroyed in a fire in the early hours of this morning. 

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters were called to a blaze at a property in Hawthorne Road just after 1am today (June 18). 

Units from Bromley, Sidcup, and Orpington were sent to tackle the flames and a family next door was evacuated. 

Watch manager John Butten said: “When we arrived there were flames punching out the top right hand side of the building and a family from next door was evacuated as a precaution.

“The crews worked quickly to get the fire under control and stop it from spreading. The roof was destroyed, but the ground floor was intact and we saved at least half of the first floor.

“I’d like to thank the young guys driving past that called the Brigade and stayed at the scene and waved us down, which was really helpful.”

Fortunately nobody was injured as the property was empty. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
