Bexley Police FC took on gay-friendly football club Bexley Invicta in a bid to kick homophobia out of the sport.
The two teams competed for the Aslie Pitter MBE Trophy for the first time since 2011 in support of the Football versus Homophobia campaign on Sunday afternoon.
Bexley Invicta ran out 4-2 winners in an enthralling contest in front of around 100 people at the home of Thamesmead Town FC in Bayliss Avenue.
Spectators, who got in free, were also able to meet officers from local police teams to discuss their work, local crime and any other concerns.
Brian Silk, chairman of Bexley Invicta FC, said: Brian Silk, Bexley Invicta chairman "It was a good match, played in the right spirit.
“We were delighted to win a trophy named after a celebrated gay footballer, Aslie Pitter MBE, who is associated with Stonewall FC – a club that pioneered LGBT football in this country and whose legacy we share.”
Belvedere Sergeant Chris Molnar added: “Everyone agrees it was a good spirited, well fought game.
“We’ll do better next year.”
