Bromley Council is warning its residents to be wary of wasps as summer arrives.
The authority says if they are seen regularly it could mean a nest is close by, which could house up to 5,000 creatures and be the size of a football.
It added as summer draws to a close wasps search kitchens and gardens for sweet, sugary foods, which can “be a nuisance” as well as increase the risk of being stung.
The council says treating a nest or dealing with wasps can be “dangerous work” and advises seeking professional help if needed.
Executive member for public protection and safety, Councillor Tim Stevens, said: “It is advisable to call in experts to deal with a wasps’ nest – a small price to pay for the peace of mind of knowing that the nest has been dealt with effectively and professionally.”
