Penge Festival returned at the weekend and the rain cleared just in time for much excitement.

Having celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2012, the event saw one of its largest turnouts ever, according to organiser Wendy Roche.

The 64-year-old, from Croydon Road, has been running the community day in Royston Field for seven years and said it was "absolutely wonderful".

She added: "It was so lovely - it started a bit tumultuously but by midday the weather was fantastic.

"We had a lot more people than normal. We had some really interesting things going on."

Everything from free NHS health checks to mechanical rodeo bulls were on offer, as well as fairground rides, a barbecue, and a marching band.

Local craft brewery Late Knights also served up some refreshing tipples to revellers, having arrived on the scene in 2013 as beer continues to thrive in south-east London.
