A fast food worker was viciously beaten up in a "frenzied" attack by ten people after a woman was refused a free kebab in West Kingsdown.

The man, aged in his forties, was running the mobile kebab van outside the Portobello Inn pub in London Road close to the A20 when the attack happened on May 23.

After the woman, who was walking with a crutch demanded the free food, at the group came out of the pub and threatened the man with violence.

The victim, is believed to have been dragged from the food van before he was kicked and punched repeatedly in the horrific assault.

The crutch was also used to strike the victim.

As much as £1,500 in cash is alleged to have been stolen from the victim as he lay unconscious on the ground, before his attackers then left scene.

Kent Police is now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Stuart Cook said: "This was a frenzied and entirely unprovoked assault, which left the victim suffering significant visible injuries, including heavy bruising and lacerations.

"I would appeal to anyone with information to call us as soon as possible."

The woman with the crutch is described as being aged around 40-years-old, with long dark hair and a distinctive crooked nose.

She was seen to drive away in a Vauxhall Zafira, which had a 57 plate.

Descriptions of two men, who are believed to have been the main offenders during the assault, have also been released.

One is described as being in his late 30s, around 5ft 11ins tall and of chubby build with short light brown hair and a ruddy complexion.

He was wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans.

The second man was around 5ft 10ins in height and aged around 40. He had short brown hair and was wearing a sports jacket and jogging bottoms.

Officers are also looking for a man who blocked a friend of the victim as he tried to stop the assault.

He was described as being completely bald, wearing a white shirt and was of a large and very overweight build.

Kent Police requested a review of the licence of the Portobello Inn following a serious assault in the premises car park on the day of the attack.

A spokesman said: "We believe there are a number of serious failures and serious concerns relating to the operation of the premises both leading up to, during, and following this incident and are satisfied with a decision to suspend the licence in order that a full review can be undertaken."

Sevenoaks District Commander, Chief Inspector Tim Cook said: "We work hard with all licensees to ensure that they are providing a safe environment for their patrons and that they are taking appropriate steps to prevent crime and disorder.

"However, we have concerns that this is not being enforced at this venue and have presented evidence of serious failures by the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) who is responsible for the management of the licensed premises and is there to ensure the safety of their patrons and compliance with the Licensing Act and objectives."

A spokesman for Sevenoaks District Council said: “Following an application by Kent Police the premises licence was reviewed and temporarily suspended at an Interim Licensing Meeting on Friday 30 May.

“This licence was considered again on Wednesday, June 4 where a number of conditions were applied which must be adhered to allowing the pub to open again. A final decision will be taken at a full hearing on Monday, June 23.”
