Townley student wins Speak Out Challenge Regional Final

Tuesday 6th May 2014 Townley Grammar School Year 10 student Bobbie Notcutt has won the Regional Final of the Jack Petchey “Speak Out” Challenge!.

The “Speak Out” Challenge! is a public speaking initiative for young people that is funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation and run by Speakers Trust, the UK’s leading public speaking training charity.

Earlier in the year, Bobbie took part in an all-day Public Speaking Workshop at Townley that culminated in her being selected to represent the school at the Bexley Borough Regional Final.

The Bexley Heat took place at Trinity Church of England School on Tuesday 6th May in front of the Mayor of Bexley, Councillor Sharon Massey and a panel of guest judges.

Contestants from schools across the borough presented their speeches, eagerly competing for a coveted place in the forthcoming “Speak Out” Challenge! Grand Final.

Townley entrant Bobbie beat off stiff competition to be awarded 1st Place, winning the hearts of the crowd with an emotional and heart felt speech about her sister entitled “Inner Beauty”.

Bobbie’s mentor and coach, Drama Teacher Ms Loughran-Biggs, said: “I would like to congratulate Bobbie on this excellent achievement – I’m so pleased for her. Bobbie is a talented and dedicated student who has worked extremely hard on producing this poignant and beautiful speech. I’m delighted that she has become the Bexley “Speak Out” Champion”.

The “Speak Out” Challenge! Grand Final takes place later in the year in London.
