Councillors have backed plans to double the price of a pass which provides subsidised travel to and from school for Kent schoolchildren.
Come September the Freedom Pass is set to cost £200 instead of £100 in a move recommended by Kent County Council’s environment and transport cabinet committee.
The pass helps 11-16 year-olds get to and from school by bus any time from six in the morning to seven in the evening during term time.
It will be renamed the Young Person's Travel Pass and holders will only be allowed to use it from Monday to Friday.
It is now up to cabinet member for environment, highways and waste Councillor David Brazier to make the final decision.
Plans were also approved to reduce the cost of an annual travel card for students aged over 16 from £520 to £400.
