SIX new refuse trucks have been bought to improve air quality.
The low-emission lorries are part of Lewisham Council's campaign to ensure all its vehicles are environmentally friendly.
They use a five per cent bio-diesel fuel, which produces fewer carbon emissions.
The trucks are estimated to reduce harmful gas emissions by 95 per cent and also reduce noise levels.
Cabinet member for customer services Councillor Susan Wise said: "I'm thrilled and excited to unveil Lewisham's first fleet of environmentally-friendly refuse vehicles.
"Investing in low-emission vehicles for our excellent refuse service shows the council is committed to doing all it can to reduce harmful emissions."
