A 15-YEAR-OLD Forest Hill boy who promised to be a "microphone" for fellow teens is the latest person to take the young mayor's chair.
Emmanuel Olaniyan beat 21 other candidates to triumph as this year's Young Mayor of Lewisham - bagging 50 per cent more votes than the second place candidate.
The Forest Hill School pupil said: "I just want to say thank you to all the people who supported me. My campaign was 'let me be your microphone'. And here I am, in front of you. So please, stay involved as I am involved."
In his manifesto, Emmanuel, who now gets a £30,000 budget to spend, talked about improving communication and running events, an area in which he has already had success.
Titanya Murdock, 16, from Sedgehill School, was elected Deputy Young Mayor, while Saffron Worrell and Liam Islam, who recently made headlines by challenging David Cameron over the planned downgrade of Lewisham Hospital's A&E, will go on to represent Lewisham at the UK Youth Parliament.
Voter turnout was 49.4 per cent.
