A SOCIAL enterprise has been appointed to run the Howbury Community Facility and Slade Green Library.
Eco Communities has been selected following a selection process and subject to a Bexley Council Cabinet decision, will run the centre as part of £8.5m regeneration of Slade Green.
The organisation beat seven other companies to run the centre which is due to open in June next year. It took over three Lewisham libraries which were threatened with closure in 2011.
New facilities at the Howbury Facility will include a large hall, an outside games area, a community library featuring an IT suite as well as a smaller hall, four further rooms and a kitchen.
The Slade Green library will include a multi-use area, a computer suite, a children’s library, a study space and a meeting room.
Councillor Don Massey, cabinet member for leisure, said: "This is one of the largest investment programmes the council has undertaken in recent years.
"It is a really exciting time for the people of Slade Green.
"These new facilities are a fantastic opportunity for residents of all ages and interests to enjoy excellent facilities on their doorstep at affordable prices."
