HISTORY came to life in Dartford on Sunday at a free event celebrating the town’s past.
Dartford Remembered Live entertained shoppers in the Orchards Centre from noon to 5pm with a children’s 1977 street party featuring games and retro food.
Classic cars were on show in a special display recalling the days when Ford Capris and Cortinas were all the rage.
As well as talks and guided walks, participants decamped to the Royal Victoria and Bull Hotel afterwards to reminisce over a pint.
The day was organised by Dartford Council and the Dartford Remembered Facebook group which has more than 3,500 members who regularly submit photos and memories of the town.
Council leader Councillor Jeremy Kite said: “It was a terrific day. We owe a huge amount to Steve Hudson who started the Dartford Remembered Facebook group and I think everyone had a great time.
“It was a day for the many people who love Dartford rather than the few who always seem to want to talk it down and from the feedback we are getting and the smiles on faces yesterday I think there are a lot of them about.
“Above all, it proved that Dartford is a town with a great heart, a great community and, of course, a great history.”
