TRAVELLERS have been seen leaving a site close to the former Catford Greyhound stadium.
Around 30 caravans were seen exiting the area - which developers Barratts Homes plan to build on - between Catford Station and Catford Bridge Station.
GLA, who own the land, served an eviction notice after being contacted on Friday (Sept 13) and police say the group had left by 10.20 this morning (Sept 17).
There have been complaints of stones being pelted at passersby after the travellers pitched up last week.
Speaking yesterday evening, Catford resident Austen Jones, 44, told News Shopper: “This is a crucial site as a depot for the redevelopment of the former Catford Greyhound stadium.
“There were about six caravans and mobile homes there yesterday and today the whole site is now occupied.
“My wife said children were throwing stones at people as if in intimidation.
“This is a pedestrian link between Catford and catford Bridge Stations and it is becoming a real blackspot and a really hostile environment.”
A GLA spokeswoman says the travellers are believed to have moved in after barriers were temporarily lifted while the developers were on site.
It comes after travellers settled in a Dartford Park last week and Bexley Village the week before.
