We have just returned from the most wonderful afternoon's entertainment in memory of the festival that helped launch David Bowie's career back in the summer of 1969, the incentive being to raise funds to restore the beautiful bandstand within the grounds of Croydon Rec, where it all took place 44 years ago.
Despite having lived in Bromley for nigh on 30 years, I had never set foot in Croydon Rec until today and WOW, what a special afternoon it was!
Despite the terrible forecast, folk braved the (at times rainly) weather to support the fabulous efforts of those who put the show together, be it behind the scenes, volunteering, or up on stage, performing.
The atmosphere throughout the afternoon was wonderful, with musicians and crowds of well-wishers united in their love of great 'live' music.
Rock and roll on next year, for the 'celebration of the newly restored bandstand concert' ( It's a little beauty and must be saved). I'll be first in line to buy a ticket!
