NEIGHBOURING Bexley Council has thrown its weight behind the campaign.
As well as a station at Woolwich, it says it also wants to see Ebbsfleet International Station, near Gravesend, included in the project because it would bring Crossrail trains to the north of Bexley.
Council leader Councillor Ian Clement has written to the chairman of the House of Commons' transport select committee, Ian Meale, reaffirming the council's support for both stations.
He told News Shopper: "I am more convinced than ever new, high-quality transport infrastructure is essential to regeneration, not only for north Bexley but the wider Thames Gateway."
He says a station at Woolwich would help regenerate the town while another at Ebbsfleet would create opportunities for hundreds of new residents and businesses.
Cllr Clement also highlighted the need for a transit system in the north of Bexley to link up with both the Greenwich Waterfront transit and the Kent Fastrack in Dartford.
