BEXLEY Council has presented plans to transform the borough into mini Holland.

Councillors met with the Mayor of London’s Cycling Commissioner Andrew Gilligan to put forward its case to be chosen as one of the boroughs to be given funding to improve its cycling facilities.

Speaking after the meeting on June 19, Bexley Council leader Teresa O'Neill said: "It was great to meet Andrew and talk him through our plans.

“We told him that if the Mayor is serious about getting more people cycling, then Bexley is just the sort of place he should be targeting.

“We are excited about the opportunities this funding could provide, not just for cyclists but for everyone in the borough, since our ideas are planned to benefit a wide range of people and businesses."

If successful, a full bid will be submitted later this summer to secure funding for a five-year programme.
