TWO people were rushed to hospital after a fire broke out in the airing cupboard of a Swanley home.
Firefighters were called to a house in Leechcroft Avenue at 10.27pm last night after the owners of the home escaped from the property and dialled 999.
The fire started when a pillow was placed too close to a light in the airing cupboard, which overheated and caught fire.
A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s received oxygen therapy at the scene from firefighters before being taken to hospital by ambulance, suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.
Dartford crew manager Richard Cromarty, said: “This fire serves as a reminder of the importance of installing working smoke alarms in your home.
“If the fire had broken out while the residents were asleep it could have been a lot worse as there were no working smoke alarms in the property.”
Firefighters left the home just after 11pm.
