MARKS and Spencer is planning a relaunch of its clothes which will “reassert its leading position on quality and style”.

Starting with its Autumn and Winter collection, the company has announced a quality charter to align its standard-setting ethics with design.

The move follows months of customer feedback and research and changes will be seen from the end of July.

Style director Belinda Earl said: “Every woman deserves to look great and feel confident in her clothes. We are focussed on delivering quality, stylish fashions for our customers each and every time they shop with us.”

To improve quality M&S is using better fabrics across its ranges, has new tech to make shoes more comfortable and stop buttons falling off and a Staynew finish on some clothes, including £6 basic t-shirts, to reduce pilling after washing.

Sizing has also been reviewed to give better consistency of fit, with only six for formal trousers compared to 16 previously.

The company has worked on its sub-brands, introducing the M&S Collection range, has added its twist to the season’s trends and will celebrate British designers and manufacturers with its Best of British Collection in collaboration with the British Fashion Council.
