THE battle to be EllenorLions Hospice Top Dog was a closely fought one this year.

For the first time in the history of the charity’s Scruffs Dog Show, there was a tie at the end of the competition and it was down to the judges to cast the final vote.

The eventual winner was cavapoo Tilly, who is owned by the president of the Northfleet and Ebbsfleet Lions Club Trevor Irvin.

Tilly also won the dog most like owner and best crossbreed categories.

Chasing Tilly’s tail for the top dog accolade was Star, who also won two categories – the best trained with an adult and the best trained with a child.

The competition, which was held at the hospice in Coldharbour Road, raised more than £2,200 for the charity.

More than 400 people and 100 dogs enjoyed the all-day event yesterday.
