An animal charity is seeking separate homes for two black and white cats who were rescued from a so-called ‘cat commune’.

Their fosterer Teresa Bloomfield said: “Carmen and Jazmyn lived with a large number of cats in very cramped conditions.

“Their owner called us out of desperation. She had decided she wanted to downsize, not her home, but her cats.

“They were getting out of control. She had started off with three cats and allowed them to mate time and time again. Within a couple of years three had multiplied to a few dozen.

“She didn’t believe in getting her cats neutered, so litters of kittens kept being born.

“We were only able to take two of her cats. We’re not certain of their age but know they are fairly young, like five or six years.”

Carmen and Jazmyn need homes where they will be the only pet. They shouldn’t be busy homes, as both like a bit of peace and quiet.

“Carmen is quite a nervous girl. I think she possibly found living among other cats a bit overwhelming,” said Teresa.

“She needs a calm house with a patient owner who will give her lots of individual attention that will build up her confidence.

“Jazmyn may not be the prettiest of cats, but she has a lovely character. She purrs a lot and loves being made a fuss of.

“She can be a little shy of strangers, yet given time she soon comes round and seeks out attention.”

Carmen and Jazmyn have both been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Anim-Mates is an animal rescue group serving south-east London run entirely by volunteers.

All the animals are cared for in the homes of fosterers who treat them as their own pets until they are re-homed.

All new homes are vetted.
