THE headteacher of a Sydenham school has paid tribute to five-year-old Chloe Johnson who died in a swimming pool in Egypt.

Chloe, who lived in Forest Hill, was on holiday with her mother Sarah Thompson and her father Tony Johnson in Sharm el-Sheikh when she was found unconscious in a pool on Friday.

She was a pupil in the reception class at Kelvin Grove Primary School, where headteacher Andy Mathieson has paid tribute to the youngster.

He said: “On behalf of our community, I have spoken to Chloe’s grandparents to express our deepest sympathies and support.

“The family are understandably devastated.

“I intend to speak to our children in assemblies and in classes on Monday.

“It is very important that we try to express our feelings at times like this.

“It will be a very difficult day.”

He added: “I will also be seeking professional support from colleagues to assist those children who may be strongly affected by this tragedy.”

A condolences book will be opened at the school tomorrow for pupils and teachers to pay their tributes to Chloe.
