SWANSCOMBE and Greenhithe Town Council has elected its new Mayor.

Councillor Lorna Cross was elected and sworn in for 2013 to 2014 at the council's annual general meeting on Thursday (May 16).

Cllr Cross takes over from Cllr Vic Openshaw and lives in Swanscombe as well as working in the health service and serving as a Justice of the Peace.

She has represented Swanscombe ward since 2007 for the Swanscombe and Greenhithe Residents Association and served as Deputy Mayor in the previous term.

Cllr Cross said: "I would like to thank my fellow councillors for affording me this marvellous opportunity."

Retiree Cllr Sue Butterfill is Swanscombe's new Deputy Mayor.

The Ingress Park, Greenhithe, resident has represented Greenhithe ward as both a town and borough councillor for the Swanscombe and Greenhithe Residents Association since 2011.
