THE Grandmother of a five-year-old girl from Forest Hill who died in a pool at a hotel in Egypt has told of her "anger and hurt".

Chloe Johnson's grandmother April told Sky News the family was "devastated" by her death yesterday (May 17) at the Coral Sea Waterworld Hotel in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

She said she was angry her son and two holidaymakers allegedly had to try and resuscitate her grand-daughter without assistance from hotel staff.

Mrs Johnson also claimed an ambulance had taken four hours to arrive and lifeguards had not been on hand to help Chloe, who was on a First Choice travel company holiday.

Coral Sea Hotel general manager Ashraf Khalil said the hotel is carrying out an investigation into what happened together with the Egyptian police and attorney general.

He said: "We are also, in collaboration with First Choice, flying in investigators from the UK today.

"We want to see the facts and the most important fact here is that our hearts and souls are with the family and with little Chloe.

"We have moved them from the scene of the hotel so they can at least not be in premises where the accident happened.

"We are taking care of them so they are not bothered in this time of grief and we wish to express our deepest condolences to them.

"We are sorry this has happened. When the investigation concludes we will be able to give answers."

First Choice said it would carry out a "full and thorough investigation" in partnership with the hotelier.

A post on the Coral Sea Resort Facebook page said: "It has now been confirmed by parents and other organisations that the child that died yesterday has now been named as 5-year-old Chloe Johnson from Forest Hill in south east London.

"First Choice is working with the hotel to conduct a full and thorough investigation into the matter alongside the local police.

"On behalf of the team at the Coral Sea Resort guest-run Facebook page we give thoughts and condolences are with the family at this extremely difficult time."

According to the Coral Sea Hotels and Resorts website, the Coral Sea Waterworld Hotel is "a magnificent resort leaving nothing to be desired" and is "set amid colourful landscape gardens and the resort two pools".

It is described as a "perfect setting for complete relaxation", as well as being "an ideal venue for many exciting activities". Sharm el-Sheikh is a popular holiday destination overlooking the Red Sea.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of the death of a British national in Sharm el-Sheikh on May 17.

"We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time."
