HOMEOWNERS are counting themselves lucky no-one was injured after a 100ft tree crashed down into their street.
The poplar came down at the back of the recreation ground by Riverside Close at about 3am on Sunday morning (May 5).
And the people living in the street are worried what could happen if another tree falls down.
Mark Towell, 49, said: “The tree had come across the river and had broken the bank fence and gone across the car park and damaged one of the cars that was parked there.”
And Tina Priestman, 50, added: “If it had happened during the day, our grandkids and other children play in the car parking area and it could have been a really nasty accident.”
“There are six or seven unhealthy trees and it looks like they will have to be cut down.”
Portfolio holder for the environment Councillor Colin Smith said: “Trees do unfortunately sometimes fall over in strong wind.
"All the borough’s street scene trees are checked cyclically, including the one which fell, which did not evidence any visible sign of decay when last inspected in May 2011.”
