BEXLEYHEATH and Crayford MP David Evennett has voiced his support for the government's immigration "crackdown" announced in this year's Queen's Speech.

Mr Evennett said the proposals show "the government is listening to those continuing concerns about immigration".

He added: "Labour's uncontrolled immigration policies put real pressure on our NHS, schools and housing."

New measures announced last Wednesday include requiring temporary migrants who use NHS services to make a contribution.

Mr Evennett has also given his backing to the government's Offender Rehabilitation Bill - legislation aimed at reducing re-offending rates by increasing the amount of supervision offenders receive after their release.

He added: "It is vital that possible steps are taken to reduce re-offending.

"We need to ensure our justice system is effective at punishing crimes, supporting victims and rehabilitating offenders."

Labour has criticised the plans as "ill-thought-out".
