A LONG-STANDING Dartford councillor has been elected mayor for the coming year during a formal ceremony held last Wednesday [May 8].
Councillor Patsy Thurlow, whose husband was also the mayor in 1989, steps into the role following an eight-year stint as cabinet member for Dartford Council.
Cllr Thurlow, who represents Heath ward, said: "I am looking forward to meeting lots of people around the Borough and helping to raise money for two great local charities."
Her chosen charities are the Renal Unit at Darent Valley Hospital and the North West Kent Disabled Foundation.
As cabinet member she was responsible for heritage, parks and open spaces and for organising events such as the Dartford Festival.
She has vowed to raise awareness of the development of Central Park's skate park during her one-year tenure, a project she has been heavily involved with.
Councillor Avtar Sandhu MBE has been appointed deputy mayor.
