THAMES Water says Crayford Road will re-open at 3pm this afternoon after being shut for more than a week following floods caused by a burst water main.

The 12-inch water main burst at 2am on May 1, causing floods up to four-feet deep in the town centre the following morning.

Because of the volume of water, both the road surface and the pavement were badly damaged - particuarly between Station Road and Roman Way.

This afternoon, a Thames Water spokesman confirmed workmen at the scene were in the process of taking down the last of the fencing at around 2.45pm.

He added the road was due to re-open again at 3pm.
