DEPTFORD people who are in their 50s and unemployed can take part in free training on starting their own business.

Charity The Prince's Initiative is coming to the Deptford Lounge library in Giffin Street on May 20, offering advice and mentoring help to develop budding enterprises.

Workshops will be delivered over six to eight weeks, including three classroom days, and the course takes people over the age of 50 through the process of preparing to run their own business, covering areas such as researching an idea, planning finances and how to market and sell a product or service.

Lewisham Council cabinet member for older people Councillor Chris Best said: "Working with The Prince’s Initiative, we are delighted to host this training course in Deptford to give older people the opportunity to explore setting up their own business.

"Getting people into sustainable employment is an absolute priority. These workshops will address the specific needs of people over 50 and those who attend the courses should be in a strong position to establish sustainable businesses serving the local community and economy."
