A CHARITY shop in Petts Wood was the unlikely location for a Bromley folk-pop band’s latest video.

Keston Cobblers' Club, who released their debut album last year, shot the video for the first song off their forthcoming EP at Romney House Cat Rescue in Queensway.

Band member Julia Lowe, 28, said: “They are doing some really amazing things. It was a fantastic place to shoot.

“Silvana who runs the shop was brilliant. She let us turn her shop upside down for 12 hours.”

The must-watch video, for the song Beam, is a pleasing mix of the quirky, hilarious wordplay and gleeful partying in the shop with a gang of friends and friends of friends.

Julia - who makes up the band with her brother Matthew Lowe, 24, and fellow Bromlians Tom Sweet, 25, Harry Stasinopolous, 25, Stafford-born Bethan Ecclestone, 27 – said the community flavour is part of the band’s DNA.

Keston Cobblers' Club take their name from the legend of a Keston cobbler who had no customers so organised barn dances which brought lots of people together but also wore out their shoes, thus putting him back in business.

Julia, of Barnet Drive, said: “The ethos of the band is to get a lot of people involved. Growing up in Bromley we made friends here and people who had friends of friends and that’s how we ended up at the charity shop.”

Previous videos have also been shot locally, including for their song Your Mother which was filmed at the new soft play area at Bromley Civic Centre and for You Go at Jubilee Church Hall in Southborough Lane.

Julia said: “What’s really good is because we have done a lot of films the band get quite excited about the next video.”

The band started gigging in 2010 and released their debut album One For Words last year which led to coverage on BBC radio, including an interview with Bob Harris on Radio 2 who said: “Keston Cobblers' Club, what a great discovery.”

A UK tour followed and the band is planning another while preparing for the release of the EP A Scene of Plenty on July 1.
