A LEWISHAM chauffeur has appeared in court charged with sex offences as part of the investigation triggered by abuse allegations against Jimmy Savile.
David Smith, aged 66, of Effingham Road, Lee, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court today (May 8).
Smith is charged with two counts of indecent assault, two of gross indecency and one of buggery in 1984.
He was the first person to be charged under Operation Yewtree, the national investigation prompted after claims were made against disgraced TV presenter Savile.
Smith was bailed until his next hearing at Southwark Crown Court on July 12.
