A MAN has been arrested following an alleged sexual assault in the grounds of All Saints Church, Orpington, yesterday (May 7).
Police were called to the grounds of the church at around 1.30pm after reports of a man assaulting a woman.
When they arrived a man fled the scene but was pursued by officers and, after a short chase, detained in a nearby road.
He was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, robbery and assault on police.
The chase left a police officer requiring hospital treatment for a deep wound to his hand.
A woman in her 20s was taken to a local hospital for treatment to her injuries and has since been discharged.
A 26-year-old man remains in custody.
