A WOMAN has died after falling into the Thames from the QE2 Bridge this morning.
Officers from Essex Police were called to the Dartford Bridge at 9.40am following concerns for a woman in her 40s who was seen standing outside the bridge railings.
A police spokesman confirmed: “The woman was later seen to fall from the bridge.”
The Marine Police Unit, a police helicopter and a lifeboat were called to the area beneath the bridge to search for the woman, who came from the Thurrock area.
They later recovered a body.
Several police cars were earlier reported to be at the scene on the bridge, where a car was abandoned.
One lane was closed while officers carried out an investigation but it has since re-opened.
Essex Police says there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and that a report is now being prepared for the coroner.
