MORE than 1,000 people turned out for Petts Wood’s annual May Fayre today.

The News Shopper-sponsored event in and around the Memorial Hall in Petts Wood Road featured live music, food stalls selling local produce, fairground rides and even reptile handling.

The weather stayed warm and dry as locals flocked to enjoy tramopolining, face painting and live street dance.

Music organiser Matt Hemsley was delighted with the day as he watched rock outfit The Dirty Perks play before taking to the stage with his own band The Chain.

The lorry driver said: “There’s been a nice family atmosphere from kids to old age people.

“It’s got that festival environment but in a community event.”

Alison Rockhill brought kids Benjamin, 8, Lydia, 6, and Samuel, 4, along for the day.

The Priory Avenue resident said: “I think it’s all the little stalls that are the most valuable like the man selling honey.”
